Prologue for an upcoming series --- Learning Mason's Secret -- Opinion's please

Hello everyone, below is a prologue for a possibly upcoming series. I am not the one that wrote this however, this person has reached out and ask what I thought about it and I personally thought it was good. I offered to put this out there and see what others think --- please let me know in the comments what your honest thoughts are on this so far. Enjoy!!

A board game falls and I say “I can’t help you if you don’t show yourself and tell me what you need” as i let out a sigh. This is my life, a regular thing for me. Maybe I should introduce myself first. My name is Grace and I have a gift that I try to keep secret. I can see and speak to those that have since passed on. Sometimes they just want to mess with me and sometimes they need my help. This one seems to be very child-like. Often my children’s toys go off when no one is near them. The channel changes to cartoons. I’m sure I’m dealing with a child. I’m not sure why they have not shown themselves to me yet. My children share my gift and often play with the spirits that seem to find us. I don’t mind that people think we are strange. We were given a gift for a reason.

It’s time to go about my day so I pick up the game and put it back in its place. It’s time to get the kids ready for school and daycare and I have to get dressed for work. I get myself ready first and then go wake my sleeping angels. Lucky me they are awake and watching cartoons with cereal. I get each of them dressed and drop my oldest off at school and my youngest at daycare where he will impatiently wait for his brother to join him then head for my job. I work in real estate, which isn’t always fun with my gift. You see some houses are already occupied but only I can see them. Some don’t mind sharing their space, others do.

Currently, I am trying to sell a house that holds a past, a family was murdered here while they slept. They have not come to terms with it yet. That’s the job I don’t get paid for, helping lost souls. I’m going to visit the house again today to try and talk to them. They need to move on. I just don’t know how to get them to. I own my own company so it’s easy to slip out of the office for jobs like this. I walk into my office and greet my secretary and take messages and go into my personal office. A few calls from prospective clients. I can return them later. I leave to head to the house, under the pretense of getting it ready to show. I open the door and the cold air hits me again. They aren’t happy I’m here. I call out the mother's name. She doesn’t respond, so I walk around and when I enter what used to be her baby’s room she appears. “Get out of my house” is all she says. “I want to help you” is my reply. “We don’t need your help. You can’t help me.” I don’t think she is ready to accept what happened here. Her husband was asleep as were their other two children, She was in the nursery feeding and rocking the baby. A stranger quietly crept in, he started with the other two children and slit their throats as they slept. He then moved to the master bedroom and did the same to her husband. While all this was happening she was laying the baby back down. The stranger then came up behind her and slit her throat. He stole what he could carry and left. The baby was left alive. I think that’s why she won’t move on. The crime was discovered the next day when her mother came over to visit and walked in and found the scene. Needless to say, her mother was heartbroken, she called the police and found the baby alive in her crib while on the phone with 911. Grandma now has the baby. She wants the house sold. I’ve tried explaining all this to the spirit. She won’t accept it. Her husband and children have moved on, she is here looking for all of them.

I leave feeling defeated once more. The rest of my day goes smoothly with an open house and phone calls. I leave to go pick up my children from daycare. As always they are excited to see me and hear a trip to the grocery store is in order. We pick up a few things we need and then get some Chinese take-out. After a day like today and dealing with a spirit like this woman I’m not up to cooking and they love when we get Chinese and watch movies. So that’s my plan for the rest of the day. Little do I know, that’s going to change. I hate that they can hide from me.

We get home and unpack the car. We get out forks and movie blankets and get ready to snuggle up and eat dinner. I turn the tv on and ask the kids what they want to watch. They can’t agree of course. Then comes the crash from the kitchen. The kids look scared so I reassure them and go to investigate. She followed me home, “Where are you hiding my kids?!? I know you have them” I try to quiet her so my boys don’t hear her but it’s too late. My oldest walks in, He is five and still doesn’t talk well. “Mommy who she?” I explain to him that she is a mommy who has passed on and lost her children because they have gone into the light and she can’t find them. He knows what he has to do. He walks up to her and says “Hi I’m Noah. What’s your name?” She calms down a little and bends to his level. “My name is Maria. Have you seen my babies?” Ok, so this is a start. “They go to the light. They waiting for you. Don’t you see it?” For being so young he is so good at this. It makes me proud. “No my baby. Where is my baby?” He turns to me for answers and I explain where she is. He tells her “Don’t worry her mawmaw takes care of her. You need to go to light. They need you there. Can you see it?” Her face lights up and we both know she sees it. She starts to cry. “I can be with them? I can go in there?” He nods and encourages her to go. She thanks him and slowly walks into the light. I give my son a hug and tell him how proud of him I am. He smiles “I help her mommy. She happy now?” “Yes, baby she is happy now.” We return to pick a movie and we find little Mason asleep and covered in his dinner with mickey mouse playing in the background. I clean him up and put him to bed. I then sit down to watch ninja turtles with my little man. Tomorrow will be a new day. Now if only I can get our little ghost to show herself we will be on a roll. Another story for another day.

More to come??
